The customer had a bad leak coming from the bottom corners of the skylight above the newly renovated kitchen. We also discovered leaks coming from another skylight on the main roof, and two chimneys. I will post another project regarding the chimney in a few days. As always we begin the process by protecting the interior of the home by placing drop cloths or plastic sheets. Shingles get removed in a particular order so the tie would be easy and waterproof once we begin to put the pieces back together. When we remove a self-flashed skylight, which is the worst design when it comes to keeping the skylight leak-free, we have to reframe the skylight curb on the roof. In this particular skylight replacement project we had to replace some rotten plywood at the bottom right corner. The skylight curb was wrapped with ice and water shield. New custom flashing and Velux skylight installed with matching shingles in brand and color.
End Result:
A very customer, leak-free skylight, and no future damages to the new kitchen.
