Identifying the Problem

A returning customer contacted The Roof Whisperer Toronto to remove a non-used chimney pipe that was causing a leak. Leaks often come from the pipe stack itself, or from the way it was nailed and shingled into the roof.

In this case, the leak was caused by improper nailing around the stack.

Our Repair Process

To fix the issue properly, our roofing specialist followed these steps:

• Removed shingles around the pipe stack.

• Cut the damaged plywood from rafter to rafter.

• Installed a new piece of plywood to close the opening.

• Applied a waterproofing membrane over the repaired section.

• Installed replacement shingles that closely matched the existing roof.

The Result

The roof is now fully sealed, watertight, and visually seamless. Most importantly, the homeowner gained peace of mind knowing the unused chimney pipe would no longer cause leaks.
